Top games in June 2017

June is the month with the longest daylight hours of the year. But we gamers don’t care as we spend a great deal of our free time in front of the screen anyways. The highlights in June were…

Dirt 4

Once known as the Colin McRae rally, Dirt 4 is already the 12th in the series. As usual, you compete on tarmac and off-road terrain in various whether conditions.

Tekken 7

Once upon a time, when PS 2 was still a thing, I used to play Tekken 3 with my friends… I almost can’t believe that it’s already number 7 now. Oh the good times.

With ARMS, Nintendo created another casual game that might go viral. Or it might not. A fighting game where you have to knock out your opponent by hitting them with your extendable arms? It’s original, gotta give ’em that.

I’m a bit on the fence on this one. It’s looks like it could be a lot of fun, but I wonder how fast I would get sick of it. TBD

The first half of the year has passed. The best half is still to come.

Top games in May 2017

The weather is getting warmer and thus there’s less reason to stay in and play video games. Or is there? These are my favorites for May 2017…

A remastered version of the 2006 game with the same name, it seems this a mishmash of Half-Life, Doom, Dead Space and Deus Ex. The coffee looks delicious, too.

Shooter in space? Shut up and take my money! At least that was my first thought. Unfortunately, the final game seems to lack something that even the VR element cannot fully compensate.

Imo the best release of this month. I love puzzle-solving games and Rime is exactly my cup of tea. The visuals are amazing and there’s lots to discover. If you ever played Journey and enjoyed it, this will be a perfect addition to your collection of games.

Another month gone by. How time flies… As usual, the full list of games released in May is found on Gamespot.

Top games in April 2017

Well, compared to the previous month, April was a lot less spectacular. Still, some games piqued my interest. My top three for the month April are…

Persona 5

This Playstation exclusive is all about RPG, from top to bottom. The game takes place in Tokyo where the main character discovers his “Persona” powers and goes to fight the bad guys. Sounds less original than it really is.

Syberia 3

If you love steampunk, you’ll love Syberia 3. You play as Kate Walker, an American lawyer, who travels in Siberia in the quest of helping the locals who saved her. The atmospheric setting and soundtrack seem promising.

Mario Kart 8

The iconic kart racing game is back with it’s 8th installment. Many of the old characters are back plus some new ones: Koopalings, Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach, among others. This promises yet again to turn out to be a classic.

Right. That’s it for April. The full list is again on Gamespot.

Top games in March 2017

What happened in March 2017? Quite a lot, actually. At least when it comes to games, here are the one’s worth mentioning. My top 3 picks are…

Dreamfall Chapters

A sequel to the previous adventure games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. The visuals look nice, although the game is getting mixed reviews.

Nier: Automata

Also a sequel (to Nier, released in 2010). If you like action and role-playing, this game combines the two perfectly, although it suffers slightly in terms of repetitive gameplay.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

For anyone familiar with the Zelda games, this is a must-buy. Looks like the best Zelda game of all time, tbh.

What else? Gamespot has the full list.

Top games in February 2017

It’s freezing outside, but since all my free time is spent on playing games on my PC and PS 4, should I even care? Probably not. The following will probably keep me up in the months ahead…

Sniper Elite 4

Blood, more blood and then some. It’s bloody, what can I tell you. It’s the same old tactical shooter with stealth elements, but it has become more polished. Better AI, larger maps, more freedom. And even more blood.

An FPS in the truest sense of the words. Just shoot ’em up and look cool by doing it. Oh, and the music is nice, too.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

The contender for the best game of the year, already out in February. Horizon: Zero Dawn has IMO everything a good game has to have: great story, great visuals, great game play and an overall originality. I bet my kidney this will be a success story for Sony and the developer, Guerilla Games.

Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

This was February. Not too shabby, if you ask me.
